It does, and you should know why before you trust the result: insect protein is a novel protein, so our recipes genuinely do not contain beef, dairy, chicken or wheat. That is the product, not the scoring. The checker has no idea which brand a label belongs to, ours included: it reads the words in the box and nothing else. It gives no score, no ranking and no verdict on whether a food is good, because an ingredient list cannot tell you that. Paste our label in and you will get the same plain read as anyone else's.
The most commonly reported food triggers in dogs
The checker ranks its results using a pooled review of confirmed canine food reactions: 297 dogs across multiple studies (Mueller, Olivry & Prélaud, 2016). The percentages below are the share of those confirmed cases in which each food was implicated. Dogs can react to more than one food, so the figures overlap. The review itself is clear that this cannot estimate how common food reactions are in the wider dog population, and the ranking partly reflects which foods dogs are most often fed in the first place.

Common questions
Is this checker a diagnosis?
No. It reads the label, nothing more. Blood, saliva and hair tests are not reliable for diagnosing food allergies either. The dependable method is a structured elimination diet run for at least 8 weeks, followed by a controlled re-introduction of the suspect food with your vet: it is the reaction returning on re-challenge that confirms the trigger. Use the checker to screen foods quickly, and the elimination process to actually confirm.
If my dog's allergen is not listed, is the food safe?
Not guaranteed. Audits of commercial pet foods have found ingredients present that were not declared on the label, and declared ingredients that were missing. A clean label is a good sign, not a promise. Watch for vague terms like 'meat and animal derivatives', which can legally hide the exact species your dog reacts to.
Which food triggers are most commonly reported in dogs?
In a pooled review of 297 dogs with confirmed food reactions, the most commonly implicated foods were beef (34%), dairy (17%), chicken (15%) and wheat (13%), followed by soya, lamb and egg. Fish, pork and rice each accounted for around 2% of cases. These are shares of reported cases, not the risk for any individual dog, and they partly reflect which foods dogs are most often fed.
What if food is not the only possible explanation?
One label cannot account for everything a dog eats or everything that can cause similar signs. Treats, chews, scraps and flavoured medicines or supplements can introduce other ingredients. Pollen, mites, fleas, and skin or ear infections can also create a similar picture and may coexist with a food reaction. The checker cannot diagnose between them; ask your vet what else should be ruled out.
