Yes. Fresh strawberries are safe for dogs: vitamin C, fibre, and even a natural enzyme with mild teeth-whitening properties. They are sugarier than blueberries, so a couple of berries is a portion, and skip anything strawberry-flavoured, which is mostly sugar or sweetener.
Why it works
Strawberries sit comfortably on the safe-fruit list, offering antioxidants and vitamin C in a soft, easily-shared package. Their malic acid content gives the folk claim about whiter teeth a sliver of truth, though no fruit substitutes for dental care.
Portion logic is the same as all fruit: natural sugar adds up, so berries should stay a treat, not a food group. Strawberry-flavoured products (milkshakes, sweets, yoghurts) are a different category entirely and frequently contain xylitol, which is seriously toxic to dogs.
How to serve it safely
- Wash, hull, and slice for small dogs; a medium dog can take a whole berry.
- Two or three berries is a proper portion for a medium dog.
- Frozen sliced strawberries work well in summer or mashed into a lick mat.
- Fresh only: no strawberry sweets, jams, syrups or anything labelled sugar-free.
